if you don't already know, Dorthy Dandrige was an American actress and popular singer, and was the first African American to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress.
most learned who she was when halle berry portrayed her in "introducing dorthy dandrige," an HBO biopic that received rave reviews. some of her more memorable films include Carmen Jones and Porgy & Bess.
